bio:

Claudia Scalise was born in Los Angeles and has lived and worked in Miami since 1989. Her work explores the connection between memory and psychogeography, using minimal compositions and a muted palette.  Most frequently painted in an intimate scale with oils on wood, her compositions combine a realistic approach and loose abstraction to describe familiar landscapes and architecture. Works in Uncommon Words vary in scale from hand-held to wall-sized compositions of gouache and flashe on canvas and wood. Through landscapes, still life and figures from film stills, these images eschew the physical aspects of memory, and instead offer a glimpse into a dark ephemeral mind space.
