Susan Weiss Hidden objects may be present

“Nothing in this world is commonplace. An artist should have an innocent eye, to which nothing is either beautiful or ugly, but full of interest and worthy of recording.”

- attributed to Charles Burchfield

.Susan Weiss paints sincere portraits of objects, machines, vegetation, and the occasional cat, that tell a delightful, unex- pected truth about the portrayed, without irony, cynicism or sarcasm. Subjects seen every day enthuse her, are looked at, embraced and attended. From her plain lines, blunt forms, approximate palate, and “just because” backgrounds, a comfortable recognition ensues, the portrait winks at you, and whimsy finds its own way.
