exhibition statement :

under the bridge will be  transformed into a stumbled-upon forgotten space that the viewer can reengage with, as if for the first time in many years. One part archeological find, ten parts memory, it’ll be that clearing Phillips stumbled upon as a child while roaming through the forests behind the house she grew up in. Forests that she still dreams about, taken from her as a child, and haven't existed for some time due to development.

This project is an escalation of previous projects having the space and time to further explore and challenge notions of gravity, tension, memory and value, love/loss, revival, and temporary and permanent interventions though the various materials I find and use in generally odd and amusing, playful ways.

While creating this work Phillips will also be exploring various video performances/interventions using the objects that she finds and uses – how she select them and what happens to them once she takes over their care. These objects almost become like foster children, grafted into Phillip’s life, (a responsibility she doesn't take lightly). The way in which Phillips knows and understands these objects has been the playful subject of many planned – yet to be done – performances.
